From green rivers to parades and festivals, this weekend revelers around the world will be celebrating all things Irish. And what better reason to plan a last-minute trip than to partake in some St. Patrick’s Day events? Orbitz editors compiled some of their favorite cities for celebrating and highlight some of the annual festivities around the country. Here’s what’s on deck:
Picks for Top St. Patrick’s Day Destinations include: 1. Chicago, 2. New York, 3. Savannah, 4. Washington, D.C., 5. Boston, 6. San Francisco, 7. Philadelphia, 8. St. Louis, 9. Kansas City, and 10. Dublin, Ohio.Among the cities with the best parades and celebrations the Windy City takes the top spot where the Chicago River flows green and parties form from Wrigleyville to River West. And while Savannah, GA, might not seem the obvious choice for finding the luck of the Irish, the city has held St. Patrick’s Day celebrations for almost two centuries and is home to the second-largest St. Patty’s parade in the country. Coming in at No. 10, with a name like Dublin, Ohio, this Midwest community of 41,000 boasts “Irish is an attitude” in their town, and just last year the popular parade was highlighted by green-teen flash mob.
Like many holidays throughout the year, enjoying Spirits is often part of the celebration. This year, Orbitz is taking extra steps to encourage revelers to play it safe over St. Patrick’s Day weekend. For every download of the Hotels by Orbitz app for iPhone or iPad over this holiday weekend, Orbitz will donate $1 to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
