No one would argue that downtown Seattle–or downtown anywhere–needs more hotels, but business travelers looking for iterations of their favorite mid-priced chains in the Emerald City now have more choice. Hyatt Place has opened a 160-room outlet on 6th Avenue North near Denny Way. Not too far away, in Pioneer Square, a 222-room Courtyard by Marriott has opened in the historic, turn-of-the-century Alaska Building.
- Meanwhile, New York is getting several new hotel options, too. A boutique Kimpton hotel called the Eventi has opened near Penn Station, the New York terminus of Amtrak. In Times Square, the heart of the theater district, a 310-room Staybridge Suites has opened its doors. And a 321-room Sheraton has opened in Brooklyn, currently the trendy borough of the Big Apple. It’s the first full-service property to open on the other side of the Brooklyn Bridge in more than a decade.
- If you’re a fan of the Marriott family of hotels, there are plenty of new options for you: a 128-room Residence Inn adjacent to the conference center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire; a 72-room Fairfield Inn in Redding, California; new branches of Courtyard in Biloxi, Mississippi; central Budapest, Hungary, and a second location in St. Petersburg, Russia.
